Smugglers of contraband imports on the Oyo/Osun axis are facing hard times on the hands of the officers and men of the Nigeria Customs Service(NCS) as the officers have maintained a robust stance against criminals.
While commending his officers on their anti-smuggling efforts, Comptroller Ben Oramalugo, (PhD) , explained that despite the economic hardships that exercerbate smuggling activities, his officers have remained vigilant and proactive in intercepting illicit imports while apprehending the perpetrators in the process.
Comptroller Oramalugo explained that the months April, May and part of June, witnessed numerous successful operations, resulting in the seizure of contraband items.
The seizures include a hard drug, Cannabis Sativa with a duty paid value of #15.8million; 600 bags of banned foreign par boiled rice worth over #50million; petroleum products(fuel) valued #5.5milion and used tyres worth #15 million.
Other seizures include one used Mercedes truck worth over #30m and one used Nissan caravan valued at #12,5 million.
“I will like to reassure all stakeholders within the Command’s Area of Responsibility, that we recognize the grave implications of smuggling activities 9n the national security, economic stability, and public health and we remain resolute in our determination to combat this menace, ” Comptroller Oramalugo explained.
Je assured that his officers, with active participation of relevant stakeholders, intelligence – driven operations and advanced technology and professionalism, will continue to ensure safer and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
With the tacit approval of the Comptroller General, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, ( MFR), Oramalugo handed over the seized hard drugs to the NDLEA officer, Mr Eneh Uche Valentine ,
On the revenue side, Compt Oramalugo said that his Command generated a total amount of #30.66 billion in the first five months of this year.
This is about 5.2 % more than the #29.15billion earned in the corresponding period of last year.
He attributed the increment to the dedication of his officers and men.
In May this year alone, the Command earned a whopping sum of#6.3 billion. The Comptroller is certain that his Command will meet her revenue target for the current fiscal period.
He advised his officers and not to be afraid, adding that this year’s target is achievable.
